Mother of Pearl stands out as a contemporary responsible womenswear brand, deeply rooted in individuality, authenticity, and a strong commitment to sustainability. Founded in 2002, the brand has made a mark in the fashion industry with its classic, yet refreshing designs that showcase both wit and heart, all while maintaining a conscious approach to fashion.

At the forefront of the brand’s journey is Amy Powney, the Creative Director, whose life-long passion for sustainability has transformed Mother of Pearl into a beacon of change within the fashion realm. From her humble beginnings sweeping the cutting-room floor to leading the brand, Amy’s mission has been clear: to reduce the environmental impact and advocate for sustainable practices industry-wide.

In 2017, Amy’s efforts were recognized when she won the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, leading to the launch of No Frills – a core sustainable collection. No Frills is built on the principles of transparency, social responsibility, and minimizing environmental impact, utilizing organic and natural materials and ensuring a clear and ethical supply chain.

Today, Mother of Pearl continues to build on this foundation with their Core collection, a range of staple styles designed for longevity and ethical production. The brand is open about their progress and committed to helping customers make informed choices, showcasing the sustainable attributes of each piece.

Amy’s dedication to sustainability has also led to her involvement in various collaborations and ambassador roles, including a sustainable jewellery line, sustainable homeware, and serving as a brand ambassador for TENCEL™. Her journey with Mother of Pearl has been captured in the documentary film, Fashion Reimagined, which highlights the challenges and triumphs of embedding sustainability into the brand.

Mother of Pearl is not only about providing sustainable fashion options but is also about nurturing future generations, as seen in Amy’s personal life and her dedication to inspiring the next generation of sustainable fashion designers.
